“Public engagement is by definition a two-way process, involving interaction and listening, with the goal of generating mutual benefit.” From NCCPE – https://www.publicengagement.ac.uk

As part of the group dissemination strategy, engaging with general public is of vital importance for our research to strengthen relevance, responsiveness and accountability and to build trust.

Project 2015: prof. Turkheimer at Pint of Science – Brain Under Scrutiny

IT ALL STARTED FROM AN EQUATION: THE MATHS THAT REVOLUTIONISED MEDICAL IMAGING

In 1928 Paul Dirac, a young English physicist with a very odd character but a brilliant mind, set out to incorporate Einstein’s relativity into the motion of elementary particles. Little he knew that the short and sharp equation he produced (the only piece of math inscribed in Westminster Abbey) would start a revolution into physics that has directly lead to the development of modern MRI and PET scanners

Project 2016-2017: Taking part in a neuroimaging study – What is it like to have a brain scan?

Project 2017: MRI MYTH BUSTER

A poster exploring some common myths about MRI brain scans, and how they are used.

Project 2020-2021: The Illustrated Patient Information Sheet

Communication of science and clinical studies is difficult, particularly when engaging with the general public. Scientific methods and concepts are complex and highly specialised, making the presentation of this information to a layperson audience particularly problematic. This is a serious situation when clinical patients are involved and where the clear communication of diagnostic methods, treatment regimes and routes to recovery are essential. The proposed illustrated patient information sheet wants to facilitate the communication of a PET/MRI study to the patients involved in the study
